Oceania under 19s- young Wantoks show great talent
The PNG Wantoks have put the sword to Vanuatu and sent a message to teams in the World Junior Rugby Trophy that they are coming to get them. In a display of full speed attack and crunching defence the men from the highlands have run out 84-0 winners.
PNG hooker and machine Boe Vaieke again ran wild, he is in the thick of everything and with half a chance ran straight and caused massive cracks in the Vanuatu line. This man worked all tournament and again in the final when it counted most he stepped up again.
In dusty hot conditions in Nadi both teams gave it all and the crowd were treated to a spectacle of rugby, Vanuatu tried and tried but every step was covered by PNG and as ball was spilled they were there to lap it up and use it well. They were far too strong in the breakdown & just kept the game flowing. The eagerness and team communication was very loud and right until the hooter PNG was hungry for more points.
Vanuatu had a tough day today, things just didn't bounce there way and this match was a test. They have some real speed, gritty defence and with a few good bounces and some more games these guys will be a force.
PNG rugby is on a high with this convincing victory, the talent is oozing, but more importantly is the style in which they play the game. Every step is positive, they tackle hard, run like the wind and are very quick to secure lose ball and protect their men in the ruck area. When a team is talking they are usually doing well, on the field this team is very loud in chatter, not moaning at the ref, but telling their mate with the ball exactly where they are to help him when he needs. They are very impressive and without sheer size that brother nations in the pacific are blessed with, this fine team has huge heart and character and will be destined for greater things in the future.
