Oceania Under 19s- Vanuatu focused
Vanuatu are gelling as a unit and eagerly awaiting more matches to express their expansive flavour in the Oceania Under 19s.
In hot conditions in Apia this afternoon they were involved in a brisk training session, on board was IRB Rugby Development Manager -Lee Smith to lend a hand.
With the picturesque backdrop forgotten the men went about improving the technical side of their footy. Looking around their squad you quickly see size is not their strength, but in there midst is a tone of enthusiasm and wheels.
Starting with lineouts they were diligent at getting things right. Time and time again they got the lifters in position and propelled the lanky timber in the air. It is quite refreshing to see that with a few tips given the immediate effect kicks in; it is like panadol speed relief as the rugby knowledge is delivered.
Men were in the right place, throw in’s were on target like a dart, & the backs had their hands out awaiting their chance to shine.
The initial practice tempo was very much teenage like, casual and relaxed, as they are. As their belief and skills improved, so did that of the communication and manner in which they hit targets and ran. Things were fun and no doubt they are looking forward to tying up the laces in the next match.
Vanuatu will not win the Oceania Under 19s, they will however leave Samoa a more equipped side. Already their level has risen and so that of the belief in their potential. With the bright jerseys and wide grins the young men from Vanuatu are focused on improving in the Oceania Under 19s.
